New van offers are a hot topic all year round. For those in the market for a new van, you needn’t look far before stumbling upon a dealership claiming to have the best offer out there.

With a large range of vans available on the UK market, it can seem a little daunting at the prospect of ensuring you are choosing the correct new van deal. We’ve all heard of decision fatigue, and with a purchase of such importance, this could be the ultimate example.

When it comes to choosing a new van deal, you might be left wondering; do I negotiate on price? How do I know which are the most evergreen features of a van? What finance is available to me?

At Discount Van Sales, we get asked these questions on a daily basis, so it’s time to put your minds at rest, and lay it all out.

Is it Worth Negotiating a New Van Offer?

Buying a new van off the forecourt is intimidating. If it wasn’t enough trying to make sense of the offers and payment methods, you will also have to hold your own against a salesman, who at the end of the day, is looking to make a very good deal.

Vans are not cheap, they shouldn’t be, any money you can save will go a long way to the future state of your bank balance. Offers on new vans are already in place to make this process a little easier.

We have put together a list of tips to ensure you get the best new van deal for your ideal van:

  1. Product Knowledge: Sales teams aim to know their products well, using this knowledge to highlight a van’s best points while not focusing on the downsides. It’s tough to remember every detail about a van you like, especially if you’re looking at several. So, it’s smart to know the basics of each car you’re considering. Pointing out the good points of other vans when you’re at the dealership might get you a better deal from the salesperson.
  2. Know Your Budget – And Stick To It: Whatever deals are on the table, however, keep your monthly budget firmly in mind. If you can afford £325 a month – and no more – don’t allow the dealer to round it up to £350. There is often wriggle-room in the annual percentage rate (APR), which you should push the dealer on, because it’s one of the single most important factors in getting a good deal on your new van.
  3. Dress To Impress: Although it’s not as formal as a job interview and you should be at ease, the way you dress gives a dealer clues about what type of buyer you might be. This can have varying levels of impact, depending on the showroom.
  4. Visit on the Right Day at the Right Time of Year: Many workers are paid at the end of the previous month, so more people are in the mood to buy, and more customers mean fewer discounts will be on offer.

What Financing Options Are There For a New Van?

Buying a commercial van, or even one for leisure is a large investment for anyone. If you cannot find the perfect new van for your desired price, you might find yourself cutting corners or opting for a less satisfactory option.

At Discount Van Sales, we offer a wide range of financing options. You do not need to commit to the outright purchase of a new van offer. Ultimately, our experienced team is here to guide you through the best options available based on the information you can provide.

  1. Van Hire Purchase: The deposit covers VAT and RFL, with repayment terms ranging from 36 to 60 months. Monthly payments don’t include VAT, and VAT-registered customers can reclaim the VAT on the deposit. You can also deduct all interest charges from taxable profits. The vehicle will appear as an asset on your balance sheet and is eligible for depreciation allowances. At the end of the contract, full ownership of the vehicle transfers to you after the option fee is paid.
  2. Van Finance Leasing: The initial deposit is equivalent to 1 to 3 months’ rent plus VAT, with repayment periods ranging from 24 to 60 months. VAT-registered customers pay VAT monthly and claim it back quarterly. Rentals are fully deductible against taxable profits, and the plan may include a balloon payment at the end to lower monthly costs—discuss this option with us. At the contract’s end, you can sell or trade in the vehicle, usually keeping 95% of the proceeds (excluding VAT). This lease has no mileage limits, adding to its advantages.
  1. Van Contract Hire: The deposit for a van contract hire, similar to van finance leasing, ranges from 1 to 3 months’ rental plus VAT on the deposit, with an option for a maintenance package and no need to sell the vehicle at the end. Monthly payments include VAT, which is reclaimable for VAT-registered businesses, and all rentals are tax-deductible. A fixed maintenance package is available, covering services, repairs, and tyres. At contract’s end, you return the vehicle, which undergoes an inspection for any repair costs, making it suitable for VAT-registered businesses with large fleets. Note that the contract has mileage limits and early termination fees.

With the right provider, services and upgrades can also be available as part of the deal keeping your vehicles roadworthy and the best on the market without colossal, mounting costs of maintenance.

Features To Look Out For in a New Van

A new van offer doesn’t start and end with the face value price. There are so many other considerations.

When scouting for a new van, there are several key features to consider ensuring it meets your needs. Firstly, assess the van’s payload capacity to confirm it can handle your typical cargo weight. Fuel efficiency is another critical factor, especially for those clocking in many miles, as it impacts ongoing operational costs. Interior space and dimensions are vital for accommodating your specific goods or equipment.

Look for modern safety features and driver aids, such as rearview cameras and stability control, to enhance driving safety and comfort. Connectivity options like Bluetooth and GPS can streamline operations, while reliability ratings and warranty terms provide peace of mind. Lastly, consider the total cost of ownership, factoring in maintenance, insurance, and potential resale value, to ensure the van is a sound investment for your business.
